Cochin Shipyard Limited started the fabrication of its Pilot Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vessel

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has begun the fabrication of its Pilot Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vessel.

This is purportedly India’s first Fully Indigenous Zero Emission Fuel Cell Vessel Project. Cochin Shipyards Limited has partenered with KPIT Technologies & IRCLASS for this project. This is a partly funded project by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

“This vessel is expected to propel India to a strong position on the global front as among the first movers in this niche & emerging technology” stated by the Mr. Madhu Nair, CMD of Cochin Shipyards Limited.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in November 2022 to build the country’s first hydrogen fuel cell catamaran vessel for operation in Varanasi and electric hybrid vessels for Uttar Pradesh and Assam.
